STD X – MENSURATION – EINSTEIN
About Course
Mensuration refers to the calculation of various parameters of shapes like the perimeter, area, volume etc. whereas, geometry deals with the study of properties and relations of points and lines of various shapes.
Archimedes is remembered as the greatest mathematician of ancient era. He contributed significantly in geometry regarding the area of plane figures and areas as well as volumes of curved surfaces.
Cylinder and Cone
Have you ever wanted to gift wrap a poster tube? Did you ever wonder how much wrapping paper you would need? Did you ever imagine how much litres of water your solar tank can hold? All these objects are in the shape of a cylinder. Some other objects like Tent, Joker’s cap, funnel etc are in the shape of a cone.
In this topic, we shall learn as to how to find the area and capacity of cylindrical and conical objects.
Sphere and Combinations
We all have over head tanks in our house which get filled by inlet pipes. Suppose if we want to know how much time it will take to fill the tank, how do we do those calculations rather than actually measuring the time it takes to fill?
If we know the dimensions of the tank and the pipe and the quantity of water that flows through the pipe in a given time, we can easily determine the time it takes to fill the tank. This is based on the principle that volume remains the same when a liquid is transferred from one container to another or a solid is converted from one form to another.
