About Course

Coordinate geometry (or analytic geometry) is defined as the study of geometry using the coordinate points. Using coordinate geometry, it is possible to find the distance between two points, dividing lines in m:n ratio, finding the mid-point of a line, calculating the area of a triangle in the Cartesian plane.
REFLECTIONSECTION AND MIDPOINT FORMULAEQUATION OF A LINE
In Geometry, a reflection is known as a flip. A reflection is a mirror image of the shape. An image will reflect through a line, known as the line of reflection.
A figure is said to be a reflection of the other figure, then every point in a figure is at equidistant from each corresponding point in another figure.
The section formula helps in finding the coordinates of a point dividing a given line segment into two parts such that their lengths are in a given ratio m : n.
A special case of this is the midpoint of a line segment, which divides the line segment in two parts in the ratio 1:1.
This formula is helpful in coordinate geometry, for instance, it can be used to find out the centroid, incenter and excenters of a triangle. It has applications in physics too; it helps find the center of mass of systems, equilibrium points, and more.
Formula
The equation of a line is typically written as y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
If you a point that a line passes through, and its slope, this page will show you how to find the equation of the line.

What Will You Learn?

  • Coordinate geometry is a bridge between Algebriac Expression and Geometric Representation
  • On changing any shape or adding different colours changes the points on the coordinate plane.
  • Mapping is simplified by the study of coordinate geometry
